Throughout the making of this, I kept referring to it as ‘Jason’s Porn Video.’ Oh, if only it were that exciting.
No – this is tremendously exciting. New content! Good content! Well, I think it is…
A few weeks ago, my friend Jason (or ‘Jase,’ if you know him by his creator persona) asked if I could film a video for a poem he’d written about porn. Specifically, his relationship with porn, and its conclusion. The poem encompasses three distinct, yet interlinked topics: porn, masturbation, and the treatment of women. Overall, however, it’s about porn. Classic porn.
I thought the poem was so powerful, and the opportunity for a powerful performance was so open, that I didn’t want to perform any visual tricks like a filmmaker would typically do. In a way, I thought it’d be distracting and inappropriate: this is a personal poem, and the attention should go to Jason – not whatever cool thing I can do with the camera.
That’s the key, really. It’s a very, very personal poem, the kind which I don’t think I’d ever feel comfortable writing and publishing on the internet myself. Forget about whether you agree with the argument or not. Very few people can write a poem about their masturbation and porn usage, and then want to turn that into a video performance, filmed topless, and publish it on the internet for all to see. It takes a healthy dosage of transparency and selflessness – and, frankly, balls.
So, please enjoy – Porn!
